#NewHymn: Oh, The All-Consuming Torrent

Hey, y'all! I know it's not a very catchy title, but I'm so excited to share this new hymn with you. I wrote it a few days ago as I was reading old hymn texts. Although I've written quite a few songs for congregational singing, this is my first one written in hymn form. I hope you enjoy it.

I botched one word on the demo. The correct words are on the sub-titles. Also, the chords that I play are a little different than the chords on the chart. Such is the nature of playing live.

If you enjoyed the song and would like to use it in your church or personal worship time, here's an MP3 demo, lead sheet, and chord chart. If you do use it, please let me know how it goes or send me a video of your congregation singing the song.

#ChangedEverything by Todd Wright

Hey, y'all! I'm proud to share a project I've been working on for the last few months with Todd Wright at Bethel Bible Church of Tyler, Texas. This is an excellent doctrinal song for the faith formation of the Church. Todd wrote the tune and I co-produced, engineered, and mixed the single. I also sang harmony and programmed percussion. If you enjoy it,  you can download the mp3 and a chart over at BethelSongs.com. If you'd like to contribute financially to support future projects, please consider buying the song from iTunes or Bandcamp.

Here's what Todd had to say about the project:'
"Working with Toby was one of the best recording experiences I've ever had. He's got serious musical knowledge and great technique when it comes to tracking. He was encouraging without overbearing, allowing the musicians to be themselves and challenging them toward excellence.
The mix phase was about as easy as can be and I would wholeheartedly recommend any singers, songwriters and bands to use Toby for their recording needs."
Please see my "Hire Me" page for more information about my studio services and my current prices.

Emmanuel - New Song Demo

Hey, y'all! Here's a new song I co-wrote earlier this week with my friend, Casey Halbgewachs. This is one of two songs that we wrote this week and one of five songs that we've written together. You've already heard one of our earlier songs, "All We Need". I hope you enjoy this one as well. This is a rough, live demo of the song.

Look for a full production demo and charts on PraiseCharts and Bandcamp soon.

All We Need - New Original Song

Hey, y'all! I'm excited to share a new song with you. I wrote this song with my good friend, Casey Halbgewachs. He originally released this on his album that I co-produced and mixed, but I knew that I wanted to re-record it and put it on my new album (coming sometime in 2014). I hope you enjoy it!

You can pick up the audio and sheet music at PraiseCharts or Bandcamp.

Christian Song Competition - I Need Your Help

Hey, y'all! This is new territory for me. I have entered four of my songs, including one previously-unreleased song, in the 2013 Christian Song Competition and I need your support. It's always awkward asking for help but it's probably good for me. Anyway, here's the deal: The top ten songs in each category will be selected based on their number of plays, likes, and comments via the Soundcloud format that they're using to host the contest. I have created a playlist of my songs that are entered in the contest. The songs entered in the contest are in a [SONG TITLE - TOBY BAXLEY] format, so I need you to specifically pay attention to those particular songs. You can listen all you like to that playlist and I encourage you to do so. However, there is a "like" button with a heart on the playlist. You're welcome and encouraged to click on that button, but I also need you to go to each individual song in the playlist and "like" them and leave comments below the interactive wave form graphic.

Do do all this, you'll need a Soundcloud account. It is free and easy. All they want is an email address and a passcode. They'll send you an email confirmation link but you're not obligated to them any further after that. If you want to hear the other entries in the contest you can go to the contest page. Don't listen to them too much so as not to boost their play counts! :)

Please "follow" my stream on Soundcloud, while you're at it!

Please leave me a comment or contact me if you have any trouble signing in or making comments.

Here are the links again:

Justified is a new song that is a favorite at church, but I haven't released yet. Enjoy! Please share this in your social circles as well.

Thank you so much for your support!

[VIDEO] - Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus - Old Hymn Made New

Hey, Y'all! I back with another new song for you. This is actually another old song that I've re-worked and added a new chorus.

The song is "Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus". It's a hymn text by Charles Wesley. The third verse is from another Wesley text called "Love Divine, All Loves Excelling". I was turned on to this arrangement by my friend Dennis Worley at Brentwood Baptist Church in Tennessee.

No gift given or received will ever match the gift of grace given us in the person of Jesus Christ. Advent remembers our longing, celebrates the fulfillment of that longing, and looks forward to the return of the King.

Enjoy!

If you like the song and would like to download it, you can go get it from PraiseCharts or Bandcamp. PraiseCharts recently featured it on their Advent/Christmas eBlast. Check it out!

[VIDEO] Perfectly Well - New Original Song

Here is a new song I just finished recording and mixing. I wrote this song over a year ago and got the drums recorded by a fantastic local drummer, Jeff Shelton. Life got busy and I didn't get the rest of the song done and then my hard drive crashed and I lost the files. Thankfully, I found an mp3 of a rough drum mix and was able to build an arrangement on it. Joel Bezaire from Nashville Bass Works brought the low end and I filled out the rest. I'm really pleased with this song and recording and I hope you enjoy it.

[VIDEO] Holy, Holy, Holy (Filled With Your Glory) - New Hymn

Hey, y'all! I want to share a little project I've been working on. I intended to record and release this tune on the hymns album that I recorded at my church. However, my computer dropped out during the live recording and I might should have cut and picked up where it dropped out. I didn't do that at the time and, last week, decided to record a full band version.

I hope you enjoy it.

Thank you for watching. Please comment, like, share, tweet, and whatever else you do if you're so inclined. If you're interested in downloading the audio, including accompaniment tracks, and a click/loop track, go here.

[VIDEO] New song - Justified

Hey! How about subscribing to my blog via RSS feed or email? It's quick and easy and you'll never miss a single post. Thanks!

Hey, friends! I'm excited to share a new song with you. I wrote it a couple of weeks ago and I'm really pleased with it. I had been sitting on this one line, "We, who deserve death, find ourselves swimming in a sea of forgiveness," for months. I did not know where to go with the song but, months later, I stumbled upon a chorus idea. I was really excited to be able to put the two ideas together. I think this is possibly my best song to date. It is definitely my most doctrinally-formative songs. Here's a video of me leading the song at Bethel Bible Church Arbor Campus in Tyler, Texas yesterday. Under the video, you'll see a link to download my acoustic demo and a lyric/chord chart.

[Song Demo] Rend The Heavens - Re-post

Hey! How about subscribing to my blog via RSS feed or email? It's quick and easy and you'll never miss a single post. Thanks!

I'm convicted that we need revival.

I'm convicted that the key to revival is not a few catchy songs. It is the people of God coming together in brokenness and praying for mercy and forgiveness and for God to restore the years the locusts have eaten. The lost will see and hear and know there is a God and fall down before Jesus as their Savior and Lord.

[Video] New Song - Let Us Fix Our Eyes

Hey! How about subscribing to my blog via RSS feed or email? It's quick and easy and you'll never miss a single post. Thanks!

Here is a new original song for worship. I wrote the lyric based on a passage in Hebrews 12. It is a short song, so I used it in the place of a spoken exhortation or scripture reading between songs. Hope you enjoy!

Jesus Is Alive - New Song Demo

Hey, reader! Here is a new song that I wrote a couple of weeks ago. I was in San Antonio with Melissa for a conference. I skipped out on all but one of the classes and stayed back at the hotel. I stayed with the intention of writing a new song for Easter. I had read some Scripture and was praying that the Lord would speak a new song into my heart. I specifically heard Him say, "Get a pen and paper." Well, it was something like that, but it was really exciting nonetheless. So anyway, if you really like the song, you can thank Him. If you don't like it, you can blame me. ha!

It Is Well (When Waters Are Calm) - New Song Demo

Here's the follow up to my video from a few days ago where I introduced you to my new melody and arrangement of the favorite hymn "It Is Well With My Soul". I was able to finish the recordings with the help of Julie Smith on background vocals and Nate Dean on electric guitar. If you have any electric guitar recording you need done, Nate is great to work with and really creative. Hope you enjoy!

It Is Well With My Soul - Vocal Reference

Here's a new song I'm working on. I hope to give you a guided tour of my process from taking a song idea to a finished recording. Today, I've recorded a "scratch" vocal. I'll use this to build up the rest of the arrangement and then this performance will be "scratched".
