Advent Resources for Personal and Family Devotions

Hey, Y'all! Just a quick post here to let you know of some Advent resources you might find helpful for your own personal or family devotion times this season. Advent is a great time to re-connect with your family around the Scriptures telling of the two comings of our Savior Jesus Christ. I'm writing this post on December 4, 2013 so you may find it helpful in future years, but if you're reading it in O-thirteen, it's not too late to get started. Read all the way to the bottom to see the resources that my family is using.

[NEW SONG] Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming - new song for Advent

Hey, Y'all! Here's another new song for Advent. It is a new setting of a 15th Century Carol with new music and text. I hope you enjoy it. It's so new that I don't have a YouTube video for it yet. You can listen to it via my Bandcamp site. If you like it, please go buy the track and share it with your friends and family. If you purchase the media package, you'll also get a guitar chord chart.

Thanks so much for your support!

The Frustration of Advent

I remember growing up that Christmas was always a letdown. No matter how great it was, no matter how good "Santa Claus" was to me, I was always left at the end of the day wanting more; not more stuff, not more food, just more. I grew up knowing that Christmas was Christ's birthday. We went to church and sang all the Christmas carols, including "Silent Night" by candlelight on Christmas Eve. I wasn't satisfied, though. It wasn't until later, several years after I came to faith in Christ, that I realized what was missing. I was getting plenty of Christmas, but I was missing Christ. Even through all the church's Christmas celebrations, I was still missing Christ at Christmas.

[VIDEO] - Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus - Old Hymn Made New

Hey, Y'all! I back with another new song for you. This is actually another old song that I've re-worked and added a new chorus.

The song is "Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus". It's a hymn text by Charles Wesley. The third verse is from another Wesley text called "Love Divine, All Loves Excelling". I was turned on to this arrangement by my friend Dennis Worley at Brentwood Baptist Church in Tennessee.

No gift given or received will ever match the gift of grace given us in the person of Jesus Christ. Advent remembers our longing, celebrates the fulfillment of that longing, and looks forward to the return of the King.

Enjoy!

If you like the song and would like to download it, you can go get it from PraiseCharts or Bandcamp. PraiseCharts recently featured it on their Advent/Christmas eBlast. Check it out!
